TheRoving Hare

Fine art celebrating the remarkable plants and animals found in our cities, parks and backyards. A gentle reminder of the beauty that surrounds us every day.

Wildlife Artist Dana Mueller

In my work, I focus on the native East Coast birds I’ve known my entire life. Watching them in my yard, I delight in how they interact with one another, how they move, and how the right light can completely transform them. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate why birds have long been revered icons of Art History, Religion and Folk Lore.
In my paintings, I pay close attention to structure, texture and character. I want to accurately reflect the species, but also aim to showcase these creatures at their very best: the colors vibrant, the poses flattering and their feathers pristine.
When living in Michigan, I recieved a Fine Arts degree from Oakland University and taught at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Moving to Silver Spring Maryland, I worked in an award-winning commercial art studio until starting The Roving Hare. Now I spend my days exploring the region with my family and painting the native species we encounter.
