Return

16" x 20" Wood Panel

Each spring, Great Egrets grow delicate breeding plumes, marking the season of renewal. This brilliant but fleeting transformation signals vitality, emergence, and the resolve to begin again. In this portrait, the egret rises from shadow, its luminous mantle unfurling like a crown of light.

Once hunted nearly to extinction for these plumes, the Great Egret has come to symbolize not only grace, but survival and restoration. Its seasonal transformation is both biological and ceremonial- a visible declaration of readiness and return.

Return reflects the cyclical nature of both the natural world and the creative life. Renewal is not passive; it is chosen. What appears delicate is often the result of profound resilience. This egret embodies the powerful act of coming back to oneself and a reminder that return is not retreat, but reclamation.
